Women’s ethnic wear brand Biba held an event to launch founder Meena Bindra’s memoir and reflect on the label’s history. The event was attended by government minister Smriti Irani and other dignitaries as well as friends of the label.
“A night woven with love and legacy,” announced Biba on Facebook, sharing images from the event. “Our founder, Mrs Meena Bindra, unveiled her memoir, ‘A Stitch in Time: The Biba Story,’ surrounded by family, friends, and the esteemed Mrs Smriti Irani. A heartfelt celebration of Biba’s journey and her inspiring resilience!”
The book has been published by Rupa Publications and chronicles Bindra’s journey as both an entrepreneur and a creative. Bindra signed books at the event and spoke about the process of creating her first memoir.
Bindra launched her first clothing business in 1982 from her own home then established the Biba brand in 1988. The label launched its first exclusive brand outlet in Mumbai in 2004 and today retails from stores across India and in a number of global locations, as well as its direct to customer e-commerce store. The label has no connection to the UK-based brand of the same name which was founded in the 1960s and operates to this day.
Biba also recently launched its ‘Wedding Edit‘ collection for the winter wedding season, the label announced on Instagram. The collection features ensembles for both brides to be and their bridesmaids, enabling them to complement each other’s looks for weddings and after parties.
