E-commerce giant Amazon India plans to shift its headquarters location in Bengaluru from the metro’s World Trade Centre in the northwest to a space close to the airport to reduce costs and could complete the move by 2026.
Amazon India aims to begin its headquarters move in April next year, according to a report by Mint. The US-owned business is currently based in an office space measuring half a million square feet, spread across 18 floors in a 30 storey development named Brigade Gateway. The integrated complex also houses around 1,200 residential flats, a hospital, and a shopping complex.
“We are excited for our move to a new campus, a state of the art facility designed to foster enhanced collaboration and deliver unparalleled employee experience,” a spokesperson for Amazon India told Mint.
The proposed new office site is approximately 20 kilometres from Amazon India’s current location, ET Retail reported. Last year, the business laid off between 500 and 1,000 employees in India as part of a round of global restructuring and Amazon India has also recently rejigged its senior leadership team which included Samir Kumar assuming the role of country manager for India in September, replacing Manish Tiwary in the position.
