At least 57 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in central Gaza, the Palestinian news agency WAFA has reported.

The attacks took place in three different locations in the central Gaza Strip, the agency reported, with 47 people said to have been killed.

Medics also told the news agency Reuters that at least 10 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike targeting the entrance of a school sheltering displaced people.

The Israeli military said its troops had identified and eliminated “several armed terrorists” in central Gaza and had eliminated “dozens of terrorists” in raids in northern Gaza’s Jabalia area – home to one of the enclave’s refugee camps.

Palestinian officials said among those killed in the series of strikes were five children and seven women.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have over the past few weeks resumed intense operations in the north of Gaza, claiming they are seeking to stop Hamas, the militant group ruling Gaza, from regrouping.

Yesterday, there were more strikes in the north, where one attack hit a hospital, torching medical supplies and disrupting operations, health officials said.

They deny Israel’s claim that “dozens of terrorists” were hiding in the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya and the facility was being used for military purposes.

Earlier this week, the number of people killed in an Israeli strike on the town of Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza reached 93, according to the Hamas-run Gaza government media office.

There was no immediate word on casualties.

More than 2,800 people have been killed and 13,000 wounded since fighting between Israel and Hezbollah escalated after the 7 October attack, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said.
