“We are thrilled to be recognised by PETA for our commitment to cruelty-free and ethical fashion,” said Virgio’s CEO and co-founder Amar Nagaram in a press release. “This certification aligns with our core values of ethics, transparency, innovation, and responsibility towards our planet and all its inhabitants. It is a significant step forward in our mission to create fashion that respects the environment and its inhabitants.”

The certification underscores Virgio’s commitment to ethical practices, according to the brand. Describing itself as the world’s largest animal rights organisation, PETA counts over 6.5 million members and supporters. By checking brands and certifying them, the organisation aims to raise awareness about animal rights and gives brands an opportunity to increase consumer trust.

“We believe in fashion that lasts longer, looks better, and does no harm,” said Nagaram. “Our partnership with PETA strengthens our resolve to lead the industry towards a more humane and sustainable future.”

Virgio uses all vegan materials in its apparel production and also uses recycled textiles. The brand is based in Bengaluru and evolved into a sustainable fashion brand in 2023.
