The exhibition presented works spanning apparel and home décor and students were tasked with mixing Indian heritage with modern inspirations, the Tribune India reported. A student named Jasmine won NIFT Panchkula’s graduation project award for a collection made using dabka embroidery and other notable collections included handwoven textiles from Kashmir and scraps of waste fabric.

“In the final semester of their four-year graduation programme, students undertake an industry-sponsored project, which provides them with invaluable real-world experience,” said NIFT Panchkula’s textile department head Bharti Pahuja, the Tribune India reported.

Other materials showcased in the exhibition included Russian silk, jute, and chinon, showing international influences. Students spent over two months preparing collections for the showcase and, following their Bachelors degree graduation, will seek out careers in the fashion and textile industries.

“Many of our students have collaborated with big brands,” said NIFT Panchkula’s fashion department associate professor Pramod Kumar. “The faculty members mentored them throughout their journey, be it creative blocks or ideation for the collections.”
