Japanese apparel and accessories brand Uniqlo plans to launch up to 30 stores in India in the coming three years. The business plans to approximately double its pan-India store count and enter new cities while also bolstering its existing presence in several metros.
“Uniqlo currently operates 13 stores in India and plans to open about 28-30 stores in the next three years,” an anonymous source close to the matter told India Retailing. “They will be opening in existing cities they operate as well as go to newer cities like Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad in the coming years.”
Uniqlo is gearing up to launch a large scale store in Mumbai this year and also has plans for a New Delhi opening in 2024. The brand entered the Indian market in 2019 and counts brick-and-mortar stores in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Lucknow, and Zirakpur while also retailing online.
“While we do not comment on market rumours, we are continuously working on expanding our presence to make LifeWear accessible to more and more customers,” a spokesperson for Uniqlo India spokesperson wrote in an email response to India Retailing. “We aim to build the best quality stores with the best customer service, and to make people’s lives better with our thoughtfully designed clothing that is high quality, functional, and made for all.”
Uniqlo also recently launched its ‘Arigato Special | Find Your Treasure UT’ collection in India, the brand announced on Facebook. The casual clothing line features a range of graphic t-shirts, created in collaboration with K-pop idol group Treasure.
