An Italian mum has won a court battle to evict her two sons – aged 40 and 42 – from her home in the northern city of Pavia, according to local media.
The 75-year-old tried to convince the pair – who were both employed and able to support themselves – to move out, but they refused.
“Neither of them wanted to know,” she said, according to local newspaper La Provincia Pavese.
She supported them when they were out of work and expected them to leave home once they found jobs. But that did not happen.
Instead, the two brothers also failed to contribute to household expenses and did not help her with chores, Italian newspaper Avvenire reported.
They would even come home in the middle of the night and leave their belongings in total disarray, reported the daily.
After her pleas for them to move out fell on deaf ears, the mum decided to take drastic action and sought an eviction order from the courts.
Judge Simona Caterbi sympathised with the mother’s plight and ruled in her favour.

The court ruled that initially when the siblings were jobless it was “the obligation of the parent to provide maintenance”.
However, after they started earning “it no longer appears justifiable” given “the two defendants are subjects over 40”, the court ruling said.
The judge’s ruling added there is “no provision in the legislation which attributes to the adult child the unconditional right to remain in the home exclusively owned by the parents, against their will and by virtue of the family bond alone”.
The men have until 18 December to move out.
