A football coach has joked that he “set them up”, after pop star Taylor Swift was rumoured to be dating American football star Travis Kelce.
The pop sensation attended the NFL game between the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and cheered on Kelce, alongside his mum.
Swift and the Chiefs’ ‘tight end’ were then filmed leaving the stadium together after the match, further fuelling rumours of a relationship.
The 33-year-old singer and Kelce, also 33, have remained quiet over the rumours – but that didn’t stop Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid from commenting.
“I met her before – I set them up. I’ll just leave you with that,” he said, when quizzed on the pair in a post-match press conference.
Kelce’s NFL teammate Patrick Mahomes, who called Swift a “tremendous singer”, added: “I guess if she ends up being with Travis, then I’ll probably meet her at some point.
“[She] seems like a good person, so hopefully I get to meet her one day.”
Mahomes revealed Kelce had told him Swift would be attending the game on Sunday, which the Chiefs went on to win 41-10.
“He told me at the last minute, but there’s some things with Travis where he kind of just says it, and you don’t know if it’s true or not.
“He says it so calmly… [on] Friday, he was like ‘Yeah, I think she’s coming to the game this weekend’ and just moved about his business.
“I don’t know, that’s just Travis.”
The rumours may be a welcome development for the Chiefs – as the NFL’s official e-commerce partner, Fanatics, reported that Travis Kelce’s jersey sales went up 400% on Sunday.
Many of those sales are believed to have come from Swift fans – often called Swifties – who have been going viral with videos in which they attempt to learn the rules of American football.

The rumoured relationship comes months after speculation that Swift was dating The 1975 frontman Matt Healy, who made a surprise appearance at the Nashville performance of her Eras tour in May. The pair reportedly split up just a month later.
The singer dominated MTV’s Video Music Awards earlier this month – taking home the prize for video of the year for Anti-Hero, the first single from her 2022 album, Midnights, among other accolades.
In August, Swift became the first female artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Her next album – a re-release of her fifth studio recording, 1989 – will be out on 27 October.
