However, the dial is split into two parts, triggering a thrilling chase to reunite them. In an unexpected turn of events, Voller’s plan backfires when a continental drift sends him back to the Siege of Syracuse in 212 BC, resulting in his ultimate downfall.

During their pursuit of the dial, Indy and Helena arrive in Syracuse, stumbling upon Archimedes’ tomb. To their astonishment, they discover the famous mathematician buried alongside a modern-day watch, which holds the key to unlocking the two pieces of the dial. Indy learns that the dial was actually designed by Archimedes himself to send them back to that very moment in time. It turns out that Archimedes needed Indy’s assistance. When Indy encounters Archimedes in the past, he expresses his reluctance to return to 1969, wishing to stay. However, Helena enlightens him about the grave consequences and time paradox that would arise if he were to remain.
