German police stop hostage-taking in Dresden.

German police have closed a hostage situation in the eastern city of Dresden after reports of shootings were reported on Saturday morning.Police had asked people to avoid areas in the city center and to keep Dresden’s Christmas markets closed during the operation.Shortly after noon, the police announced on Twitter that the hostage-taking was over.

“Two people with no injuries are taking care of us,” it said. It was initially unclear if the suspect had been arrested. Radio Dresden reported that gunmen tried to break into a station building near the central station. According to Radio Dresden, the man is said to have fired several shots before fleeing.Police have separately confirmed that a 62-year-old woman was found dead in another district of Dresden on Saturday, with her 40-year-old son named as a suspect. Police declined to confirm whether there was a connection between the murders and the hostage taking .
