AZ Factory has found its next two guest designers within its own creative team. After showcasing a host of young talent over the last two years, the house founded at the end of 2020 by Alber Elbaz with the Swiss luxury group Richemont, has set its sights on Norman René Devera and Peter Movrin, who head up the studio. Hired when the brand was created by the Israeli-American designer himself, the duo will unveil their collection at a show in Paris on October 2.
Both designers have a wealth of experience working for renowned luxury brands. Originally from the Philippines, Norman René Devera (whose name is Norman René De Vera) was born and raised in London. He began his career at Vivienne Westwood as a designer, and also worked for Giles Deacon, before joining Céline in 2009, where he specialised in 3D design. After a brief stint at Lanvin, where he met Alber Elbaz, the young designer renowned for his draping was recruited in 2015 for women’s ready-to-wear at Louis Vuitton, another LVMH label. Two years later, he moved to New York to work for Calvin Klein under Raf Simons, before returning to Europe in 2019 to join Versace in Milan.
Slovenian-born Peter Movrin also landed in London, where he graduated from Central Saint Martins. Straight out of school, he made a name for himself with his voluminous, sculptural creations, his experimental work with materials and his collaborations with numerous celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Bjork. He tried his hand at a solo venture and created his own brand, but put an end to it. Since 2017 has been working as a consultant for various luxury labels, including Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Céline, Aesop and JW Anderson.
Since 2022, AZ Factory has been calling on “Amigos” to produce its collections in collaboration with its studio. This is an opportunity to invite designers from all horizons to interpret the spirit of the brand, like Lutz Huelle, who has now become a recurring collaborator, in charge of the pre-collections. For this new collection, the company has changed its approach, turning to its own team.
“Sometimes you just decide to stay home and enjoy the wonderful family you belong to,” it explains in a statement, highlighting how “this time AZ Factory will focus on celebrating the extraordinary in-house team and their infinite ability to fuse different influences into a new, multi-faceted aesthetic”.
The collection by Norman René Devera and Peter Movrin has been dubbed “AZ Factory by them” and will be dedicated to the Spring/Summer 2024 season.
