Valentino, which in 2020 outfitted the characters of Nintendo’s ‘Animal Crossing’ video game, has designed new looks for the Meta group’s avatars. The Roman luxury label has announced a partnership with the Californian tech giant, and will showcase its virtual outfits on the Meta Avatars Store. Valentino has followed in the footsteps of Balenciaga, Prada and Thom Browne, which last year were the first to launch a series of looks in their signature styles on the virtual store that sells outfits for Meta avatars.

The first six looks developed by Valentino for the Meta Avatars Store – Valentino

On July 14, Valentino launched a first set of six men’s and women’s looks, which will be available on all the social networks of the group owned by Mark Zuckerberg, notably Instagram, Facebook and Messenger, as well as the group’s VR experiences. The label did not specify the price of these six outfits.

When Meta launched its Avatars Store, it indicated that the virtual designer outfits commercialised on it would be priced between $2.99 and $8.99.

Valentino’s first Web 3.0 capsule collection consists of two mini dresses, a skintight jumpsuit, a suit jacket, a bomber jacket, a t-shirt, a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts, all inspired by the label’s most recent collections. It also includes looks featuring the label’s capital V logo all over. Other looks come in Valentino’s legendary red, and in the bright Pink PP hue which has become a favourite of Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli in recent seasons. The Valentino Garavani Rockstud ballerinas complete some of the looks.

In the last two years, Valentino has been testing the world of virtual fashion, launching various initiatives. Last year, the label joined forces with Wanna, an augmented reality company owned by Farfetch, in a virtual try-on pilot project. In February, Valentino announced a partnership with the UNXD website, a specialist in digital luxury and culture, notably NFTs. The details of this partnership have yet to be disclosed.
